The Hebrew University of Jerusalem (HU) is reinforcing its commitment to public health and mental health with the launch of two groundbreaking initiatives. The University announced the establishment of the Robert I. Schattner Oral Health Center for People with Disabilities at the Hebrew University-Hadassah School of Dental Medicine, alongside the launch of the pioneering Israel Center for Addiction and Mental Health. These new Centers represent a significant step forward in providing specialized care and advancing crucial research, underscoring the University's role as a leader in healthcare innovation and inclusivity.
Advancing Inclusive Oral Healthcare
The Robert I. Schattner Oral Health Center for People with Disabilities, a state-of-the-art facility, wil provide accessible and specialized dental care to individuals with physical, cognitive, and complex medical conditions. The Center will include five advanced treatment rooms and will serve approximately 30-40 patients daily. Treatment will be provided by dental specialists and interns from various disciplines, enabling patients to receive high-quality, holistic, multidisciplinary care under one roof.
Hebrew University-Hadassah dental students already acquire theoretical and clinical knowledge of the unique approaches required to treat patients with special needs as part of their studies. The new Center will enable students and staff to receive more in-depth training in this field, provide fertile ground for both clinical and basic research and serve as a hub for continuing education courses that will equip community dentists with the knowledge and confidence to treat this population effectively.
Tackling Addiction and Mental Health
In parallel, the Hebrew University is addressing another urgent public health issue with the launch of the Israel Center for Addiction and Mental Health (ICAMH). This revolutionary center will unite academic research, clinical expertise, and the healthcare-delivery system to establish an integrated framework that will meet the complex challenges of mental health and addiction.
The Center will support multidisciplinary research across neuroscience, medicine, psychology, data science, cognitive science, public health, education, and social work, providing evidence-based clinical services to individuals and families affected by addiction and mental health challenges.
A Unified Vision for a Healthier Future
Both initiatives reflext a deep commitment to addressing pressing societal needs through academic excellence, innovative research, and compassionate care. By focusing on vulnerable populations and complex health challenges, the University is not only enhancing its educational and research missions but also fulfilling its profound responsibility to the broader community.
